Unused paysafecard: refund it or sell it?
paysafecard is popular in Europe and is also sold online to US customers who need a prepaid way to pay. If you bought a PIN and no longer need it, you have two realistic options.
Last updated:
Option 1: ask paysafecard for a refund
paysafecard handles refunds of remaining balances through its support team. Expect to provide the PIN, proof of purchase and identity documents, and to receive the money by bank transfer. Conditions and any fees are set in paysafecard’s current terms, so read them before you apply.
Option 2: sell the PIN
Selling suits people who would rather not send ID documents, do not have a bank account in the issuing country, or want the payout via PayPal or crypto. You get a quote first and share the PIN only after you accept it.
Don’t let it sit
Under paysafecard’s terms a maintenance fee can apply after 12 months without use, which slowly reduces the balance. Whichever route you take, decide sooner rather than later.
Avoid the classic scam
If someone asked you to buy paysafecard to pay a bill, a fine or a “tax”, stop: that is a scam. Report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and contact paysafecard straight away.
