Selling a voucher safely in the UK

A voucher PIN works like cash in an envelope: hand it over and it’s gone. Here is how to sell one without being caught out, wherever you choose to sell it.

Agree the price before you give the PIN

An honest buyer can quote you from the brand, where you bought it and the value. If someone wants the 16-digit paysafecard PIN or a photo of the back of an Apple card before naming a price, walk away.

Warning signs

  • They got in touch with you first, perhaps after you mentioned a voucher on social media
  • The rate sounds too good to be true
  • They rush you or say the offer runs out in minutes
  • They won’t say how or when you’ll be paid until they have the code
  • They ask for a “fee” or another voucher before releasing your money

Told to buy vouchers to pay a bill?

HMRC, the police, your bank, energy suppliers and delivery firms never ask for payment in vouchers. If someone told you to buy paysafecard, Apple or Steam vouchers and read out the codes, it is a scam: don’t share them.

Report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at actionfraud.police.uk, and contact the voucher brand quickly as unused balances can sometimes be frozen. Epinswap won’t buy vouchers linked to a scam.

Keep the paperwork

Hang on to the till receipt, the card or email, and screenshots of where the price was agreed. With us, your quote sits in the WhatsApp or Telegram chat, so the record is already there.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

01

Is it safe to sell a paysafecard online?

Yes, provided you agree the amount and payout in writing first, share the PIN only afterwards, and use a service you can contact again.

02

Can I get my money back if I gave a PIN to a scammer?

Contact paysafecard (or the relevant brand) and Action Fraud straight away. If the balance has not been spent yet, it can sometimes be blocked.
